Vegan is no longer just a trend - it has become part of our lifestyle

We are becoming increasingly aware of what we eat. This undoubtedly also affects your business activities in the food industry or hospitality sector. Consumers increasingly opt for healthy, plant-based food. We offer a wide range of plant-based margarine products that meet the needs of a vegan diet. Did you know that 95% of our range is vegan?

Margarine: the plant-based replacement for butter

Bebo margarines contain a mix of vegetable oils such as sunflower oil, linseed and rapeseed oil. No animal products are added, so they can be eaten as part of a vegan and vegetarian diet. That is obviously handy because margarine is used as an ingredient in many meals. Whether used as a spread for a sandwich, for preparing vegetables or making a delicious sauce, our margarine is a versatile product. Not only does our margarine taste like real butter, it also helps you get your daily requirement of vitamins and unsaturated fatty acids. As a tasty spread or when used for baking and frying!

Good for you, good for the world

More and more people are mindful of the impact their food has on their health and energy and are opting for a responsible diet. Because what we eat - and above all what we do not eat - determines how good we feel. Taste is no longer the only important consideration now that the functional aspects of foods also play a major role in our food choices. For example, the importance of unsaturated ‘good’ fats, which help maintain a healthy cholesterol level.

Essential fatty acids are important for good health. Your body cannot produce these fatty acids itself, so you have to get them from your diet. Linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid, is one of those essential fats and helps keep your cholesterol levels healthy. Omega-6 fatty acids are present in sunflower, soy bean and corn oil, among other products. Many of our Bebo margarines contain a high percentage of sunflower oil, and are therefore rich in omega fatty acids.

Studies show that eating animal products has a negative impact on the environment. Butter, which is made from dairy cream, is also an animal product. Margarine is not because it is made with vegetable oils.

The environmental impact of butter is many times larger than the impact of making margarine. To give you an idea: producing 1 kg of butter releases approximately 16.3 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere. This is because cows emit significant amounts of methane gas when digesting grass.

Producing 1 kg of margarine releases just 5.71 kg of CO2. That is almost three times less than butter!
